So many Australians rely on weekend penalty rates to get by. Those rates were hard fought for and won by working people.
They are not a bonus. They are fair compensation for giving up what would normally be family and personal time.
Pauline Hanson has repeatedly criticised penalty rates and at one point called for them to be scrapped completely*.

For decades, big multinational corporations like BHP and Qantas have sacked workers and then offered those same jobs through Labour Hire firms that pay people less money to do exactly the same job.
The Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Secure Jobs, Better Pay) Act 2022 made it mandatory for Labour Hire workers to receive the same pay and conditions as direct employees doing exactly the same work.
One Nation voted against those laws.
The gig economy is just one more way multinational companies get people to work for them and pocket huge profits while pretending those workers are not employees and therefore not entitled to the minimum wages and conditions that we fought for and won in our country.
The Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Closing Loopholes No. 2) Act 2024 put in place minimum standards for wages and working conditions for gig workers and gave them basic protections as workers.
One Nation voted against it.
If your boss breaks workplace safety laws and kills someone as a result, there is only one place they should be … in prison.
The Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Closing Loopholes) Act 2023 criminalised industrial manslaughter and put in place, for the very first time, the real possibility of a prison sentence being handed down for killing a worker if it came out that a boss had recklessly or negligently broken safety laws.
Pauline Hanson and One Nation voted against it.
Between unpaid wages and unpaid super, bosses lift an estimated $3 billion out of the pocket of workers every year. $3 billion every single year stolen from Australian workers.
The Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Closing Loopholes) Act 2023 made wage theft a criminal offence and put in place other measures to make sure money isn’t just lifted from people’s pay packets.
One Nation voted against all of it and Pauline Hanson has publicly said we should consider the impact that having to actually pay all their obligations might have on business interests*.

The cost of living in Australia has gone through the roof. Housing costs are crazy and petrol prices, driven by Trump’s war in the Middle East, hit levels that left all of us reeling.
In response, the Fair Work Commission handed down an increase in the legal minimum wage that would help the lowest paid Australians keep their head above water.
Pauline Hanson criticised that lift in the minimum wage* and One Nation has voted against measures to lift wages for low paid workers.

Insecure work puts your life on hold. Unpredictable pay makes it harder to plan ahead, and fear of losing shifts can stop workers from speaking up about safety and unfair treatment.
The Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Secure Jobs, Better Pay) Act 2022 gave workers a bit more protection by putting in rules to limit the use of never-ending fixed term contracts, improve job flexibility, and get rid of ‘zombie’ agreements.
One Nation voted against all of it and Pauline Hanson complained that it was “too hard to sack people these days“.

Sham contracting is when a boss offers someone a job as an ’employee’ but tells them they have to get an ABN and puts them on a contract that doesn’t provide the same pay or entitlements that an actual employee would get.
The Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Closing Loopholes No. 2) Act 2024 criminalised sham contracts so that bosses can’t just pretend some employees are independent contractors to avoid their legal obligations as an employer.
One Nation voted against it.
The expectation to be contactable after hours is an expectation to work for free.
Laws were put before the Australian Parliament to give workers the right to not respond to work phone calls or emails outside their paid work hours.
One Nation voted against it. When it passed, they mounted a petition to try and get the laws amended or overturned and Pauline Hanson said workers not being freely available to their employer outside work hours was ridiculous*.

Western Australian workers and our families are doing it tough. The cost of putting a roof over our heads, food on our tables, and petrol in our cars means too many of us are falling behind.
Workers have fought for laws to make bargaining for pay and conditions fairer, to protect our penalty rates, and to hold bosses accountable for stealing wages, but One Nation have refused to support us.
Pauline Hanson’s One Nation may talk like they’re for workers, but in Parliament they vote against us, every single time. Instead, they’ve sided with big business and the billionaires who back their campaigns.
They have money. We have each other.
We need higher wages, secure jobs, stronger rights at work – and for the big end of town to pay their fair share, so we can all share in our state’s prosperity. That’s what unions fight for every day. It is only workers, united, who have the power and the determination to change the system.
We call on all working Australians, no matter who you are; wage earners, gig workers, permanent or casual, full-time or part-time, direct employee or contractor, Union-member or not, to take the pledge to make sure you know who you are voting for and to never offer your vote to someone who consistently votes against our interests.
